How in the World are we ever going to reduce our debt? Right not, our children and many generations in the future are goint to be responsible for our debt? Is that really the right thing to do to our children? Well frankly, I think most of the American people are talking out of both sides of their mouths! Yep, I said it, and I wish we had brave politicians who would say it too.
First off, most of the American people have not really paid attention to what their Representatives have done, and what they are doing now. I will admit though, we are paying much more attention, but the damage has been done. Its that simple. Now it's up to us to make some changes, but I say, we don't mean what we say. They did a survey where even Tea Party voters will tell you not to touch Medicare, Social Security, and a few other huge programs. Well folks, thats a problem. The entitlements are just way out of reach and Baby Boomers will start drawing Social Security, and the race to bankruptcy is on. Let's not forget to mention the countless numbers of people on SSI, which is Social Security's version of Disability. I can't tell you how many people who have barely contributed to Social Security are now drawing from the system. So you say, eliminate those people but unfortunately, we may have the guts to do that but that will not be enough, not even close!
What is really interesting is that most of the voters say that they deserve the Social Security money because they have paid into it all their lives! I am betting you feel the same. Heck, you have paid into a program all your life and now you dont get the money. Is that fair? I say you are talking out of both sides of your mouth! I bet that makes you unhappy, and that you are probably ready to stop reading, and saying I will never read anything he writes again. Well good, now you know how some politicians feel. You say you want honesty but I say you don't!
As a country, we have an unbelievable debt, and we MUST do something about it. We, as citizens, have allowed this to happen by either not paying attention or not caring, and in fact asking for more. We have NOT paid attention to our employees, the politicians, who have used our Nations Credit Card for their whims and our demands. If this were a real life situation with a Corporation we would say that it's the Corporate Leaders faults and that the stock holders better buck up. Well, we are those stock holders, and now its time to buck up. Heck, we have people who virtually own no stock in our country making decisions, and that's another story we can address in the future.
There is no rainy day fund. In fact, our nations credit card is maxed out! Simply put, our nation is broke. We allowed our employees to go crazy with OUR money and now we have to pay the bill. This means huge changes in our lives! Let's see just how many citizens are willing to forego their share of Social Security. Lets see how many citizens are willing to play tough love with the people who are draining our system. We cannot have one without the other. If we don't make these tough decisions, our country will end it's superiority and that is coming closer than we are willing to believe. I certainly would rather be the one in charge, then not being the one in charge. I say we are Americans, and that once we have leaders who we elected are brave enough to convey this message, then we will find if we are willing to do something about it.
Most of all, I look at all our children and see what we are leaving them. I look at my daughter, whose name is Reagan. How can we do this to Reagan! We cannot expect everyone else to do something and to leave ourselves out of the equation. We must demand and accept massive cuts in all spending and this will effect all of us. We may not get what we thought was coming to us, but that's the fault of our generation. Let's do what it takes to leave our kids and grandkids a country we can be proud of before it's too late, if it isn't already!
