Why be a fool for the powers that be? We have one side of the bigger parties that says they are for the common man. Gee, that sure does sound good! Yep, that would be the Democrats. They care, and they will be the first to tell you. Then you have the Republicans who tell us every day that they want us to keep more of our own money. How can you not like that? After all, most of us believe we know how to spend our money better than the government does. Then you have the negatives that both parties pile on us. The Democrats tell us that Republicans are rich guys that care little for the common man and that they are stealing from working man. Then you have the Republicans who tell us that the Democrats only want big government and all of our money. Wow, what do we do that that?
First off, lets get one thing clear. Research has already shown that Democrats make more money than Republicans on average. Then you have Republicans who say that Democrats want bigger government. Really? Well what was that expansion of government we saw in the first part of the 21st century? The Republicans were in charge but expansion of government was beyond belief. That was until the Democrats took over and they went to high speed spending. So now the Republicans weren't as bad as the Democrats. Wow, what an argument. I'm not so sure I like or believe either one of them. Do you?
So, the battle lines are drawn. Which version is going to make you vote their way? Obviously, one side is the enemy, right? So, let's take sides and root for out team. There is only one real problem with this. Have you done the research? Just because these Candidates have told you how much they care, have you cared enough to check out their story or do you just believe whatever they say? Basically, don't be a lazy voter. Believe it or not, the politicians not only want you to be lazy but they are depending on it. I am sure you have heard the expression "When the cats away the mice will play." They wants us Cats to be away! Also, don't just look at the votes! See what the actual legislation was that they were voting on, and don't just look at the vote with the talking points. It's our job as voters to check their work. You see what happens when we don't!
Let's face it, we have been very lazy voters. The politicians love voting on bills with all kinds of add-ons because then they can say that they did, or did not vote for or against something. It's a very confusing game and the "experts" or the "experienced" in D.C. and our state and local communities know it, and love it that way. The end of it is, WE are the pawns. However, we pay the bills. Unfortunately, now our children are being stuck with bills and most that will be stuck with OUR bills haven't even been born yet.
Ultimately, it's our fault. We were lazy. We picked a side, and many times pick that side without thinking, and actually believing what these people who represent us are telling us. Let's stop picking our Representatives by perception. The reason they need lots of money to get elected is because they are fully aware that most of us don't pay attention and select our Candidates by tv and radio commercials, as though they are a box of cereal or a new car. The sooner we admit that have done an awful job, the better. Don't we, our children, and future generations deserve that? Ultimately, we blew it, now lets fix it! Stop sticking your hands out looking for something, start sticking your arms up and being counted as a truly informed voter! Our country needs us, isn't it time we show up?

It's About Time
After so many people coming after me, I have finally decided to put it out there. So, my first posting will be why I am doing this to begin with. I have grown up and see all the phonies out here and finally couldn't keep it quiet anymore. Sometimes, I think the phonies are multiplying in droves, and so many are afraid to call them out. I take a lot of grief for calling out phones but I feel that someone has to. Can you say the St. Louis Tea Party leaders? So, this is my first post, so bear with me and share your thoughts and ideas with my future posts.
Wake Up Calls!
Sometimes we all need to be reminded that there are some very good and caring people in this world. We have become a society of "takers" and do little giving on an individual basis. As you know, I spend so much of my time dealing with the political world and what it does to our society. Little do we know just how much the political world actually changes our everyday habits and I think it's high time that we put an end to that.
The other day, I had a moment that really put a tear in my eye, and I haven't stopped thinking about it. It may have been small gesture, but what a huge impact it had on me. It really got me thinking about what has happened to so many of us, and the loss of community and our humanity. We seem to ship our personal responsibilities off to our government, churches, and charities and we miss the personal touching of other human beings. We write the check or put money in the bucket and assume they know better how to spend it. Wow, what a loss!
I was staying in St. Louis at a good friend's house, and I stopped by the local Quiktrip to purchase some beer for them. Being the good shopper, I checked the prices and walked to the counter with the 12 pack I selected and set it on the counter. The checker told me the price, which was higher than I expected and I questioned him on it to make sure it was correct. Next to me was a gentleman who interrupted and said "Sir, I work for Anheuser Busch and I would like to buy that for you. I so appreciate you buying our products and I want to buy that for you." I stood in astonishment and really didn't know what to say. Of course I thanked him and even mentioned he didnt have to buy this, but he insisted. What a very nice thing to do! Again, this is such a little gesture but the impact was huge for me.
What it did for me was point out many important things that so many of us are missing, and one is why we cannot have our government as the safety net. What I came up with is that there is no "personality" that comes with the giving. There is NO character or person to thank or appreciate. It becomes an entitlement! Worse than that, because the giving has no "personality" that goes with it, we even make judgments that we deserve the money or gift, whether we pay in or not. It's like having someone come in your home and steal your money, and also now your kids money, and after taking their cut, handing it out to the causes THEY desire.
When you don't even get a chance to experience of directly helping another human being, then it is a huge loss for you and the recipient. I say that in simply writing a check to churches or charities, you still lose that personal touch and connection. I'm not saying we should stop giving to churches and charities, but it cannot be the only thing we do. We all need to adopt a person or family to help because we deserve and really do need to experience and enjoy the personal feeling of giving to another. We can help them with their lives unlike the government could ever do, as they have shown time afer time. Even if we don't have much, it is an amazing feeling to give something to someone and to see that smile of appreciation.
We are losing those very special feelings that enrich our lives, and are imperative to survive as the nation we started out to be. We need so much to regroup and learn to give and really appreciate what we receive from the givers. Both are very important qualities that we are losing as Americans. It is important that we understand and experience giving and receiving and not just one or the other.
Make this Christmas very special. Search for someone needy and surprise them. You will make their day, but just as importantly, you will make your day even more. Next year, let's concentrate on stopping our politicians from stealing our money and handing it out to whomever and whatever THEY decide. We deserve that feeling of giving and they are stealing that from us too.
Merry Christmas to everyone. Stay strong and do something special for someone! You will love what you have been missing! It really is an awesome gift to give and a wonderful gift to receive. We all need both!
